In case the feathers hadn't given it away, Lumiere's appearance is beyond what is naturally expected of a fox. Though his coat is decorated with stars and constellations, his passion and focus on magic is more at home with the realm of fire. A trained practitioner, he enjoys shedding light on any new findings with just a small dash of fire.

You may be querying how the feathers came into being; Lumiere decided that he needed something more to his appearance (as if it was lacking in diversity already). Using his ability to create wisps of fire, he set about casting his magic to decorate himself with something different. It was too risky to have actual flames, so he took inspiration from fireflies and phoenixes. These feathers sometimes have a firey glow to them, but the majority of the time they are "normal" feathers for decoration.
